I love that the Tinkering Labs Catalysts are maker-based, open-ended projects that allow students to pursue their own ideas. They provide the right parts, a little bit of a challenge and the freedom to explore and tinker your way to a unique solution.”

I really like how you can use and reuse the Catalysts in endless ways. And if they don’t do exactly what you want, there’s always a way to make it work with a little more effort and creativity.

Most of the kids who come to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley don’t have much exposure to maker activities, so it’s very important for us to offer them experiences like Tinkering Labs.

REAL PARTS

This is more than a craft project—we use real hardware and tools. Some parts are custom designed, and some are what you can find inside home appliances or the hardware store.

CHALLENGES, NOT INSTRUCTIONS

There’s no “right” way to use the pieces of a Tinkering Labs Catalyst. Each is designed to inspire a number of projects and activities, then it’s up to you to see the possibilities.

STEM LEARNING

Each Catalyst relates to a particular principle or concept related to science, technology, math, and engineering.
